Lesson #152 Can a Christian be Possessed?

Can a Christian be Possessed?

What right does the devil have to access in a human body? The body is composed of a spirit, mind and a body. Possession is being under absolute and complete jurisdiction from the devil. If a person is born of the Spirit, or born again, the devil has no right to total control of that person. However, since there are different parts to us, we need to know is what territory he will try to get away with, and what to do about it. In other words, who lied (the enemy), and which lie did he tell? The more you expose the enemy, the more captives will go free. The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10), but Jesus has abundant life for us. Be aware of problems and ‘nip them in the bud’. Give no place to the devil (Eph 4:27).

Here are the seven ways that the enemy tries to slowly devour us or others.

Regression: At first the enemy will try to tie you up with a bad thought; a small, light string before he brings a rope, a chain, and eventually shackles. Listening to certain types of music or television can seem harmless, but a constant source of compromising media is not edifying. (2Cor10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ)

Repression: A grieved spirit from an oppressive parent, supervisor or even a church leader can lead a person to have a loss of self, and without much joy. Sometimes the fault of a chronic physical weakness. Some burdens are words from other Christians that are not from God. Make sure what someone tells you lines up with the Word and the Spirit inside you. Make sure “The Truth” becomes greater in your life than “a truth” that is temporary. (1Jn2:26, 27 …concerning them that seduce you, you need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, even as it has taught you)

Suppression: This person has no energy or enthusiasm. Many of us have experienced this. The average person can overcome suppression after a few hours or a day or two with an encouraging word, a good Message, a good night of sleep or change of environment. Trouble comes if they hang on to these feelings. (Phil 4:8 whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, think on these things.)

Depression: A broken spirit that’s been taken advantage of by satan after the result of disappointment, betrayal or rejection. Some are religiously depressed and/or suffering minded. Depression is the meditation of an ungodly thought. Depression comes when expectations are different than reality. Acceptance of the Truth will open up the bigger, more favorable picture.
(1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you)

Oppression: A weight on someone that they are unable to carry. We were never meant to carry unforgiveness, large debts or even live in another time realm besides the present. Sometimes this results in physical manifestations including migraines. One person I had prayed for and got delivered by the Lord would actually have demons grabbing her to the point where she couldn’t sleep at night, and haunted her mostly when she was alone. They were stubborn, but came out by the power of Jesus. They never came back and she slept soundly ever since.
(Acts 10:38 God anointed Jesus went about healing all that were oppressed of the devil)

Obsession: The persistent, inescapable pre-occupation of a lie or untruth. This includes jealousy, cults and escapism; the obsession for the desire of drugs and alcohol as a way to avoid reality or perceived reality. This person needs assistance for deliverance by someone who knows their authority.
(John8:36 If the Son will make you free, you will be free indeed)

Possession: A person who has been influenced by association from someone else’s connection with the enemy, usually over a long period of time. Possession is being under absolute and complete body, mind and soul by a demonic spirit(s) with no mind of their own. They have no mind to reach out for God and pray. The devil will not allow them to look in your eyes. You can determine this by a great clash of spirits.
(Matt 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely you have received, freely give)

I realized after the Lord used me to deliver captives, the enemy knew who I was and would tell me through people I have never met (Acts 19:15). When you are more than a conqueror, angels and devils recognize you. If you are not dominating the devil, he has access to dominate you. We are in a war without neutral ground. If you don’t have a healthy understanding of your authority, you may be ripped off of the benefits of your life. We do not belong to the god of this world and he has no right to any of our territory. Even the weakest member of the body has more authority than he does. Speak to him and give him a taste of his own medicine. If he tries to tell you about a negative future, tell him about his future. The devil is afraid of authority and does not like embarrassment.
You’ve been approved by God. Rule with your given authority.
